The Loft is one of the most interesting places to stay in Yangon and for a long time was by far the coolest hotel (if not the only cool hotel) in the city. Despite challenges from young pretenders, this hotel still remains up there as one of the hippest locations in the city.

The rooms are large and chic, set in bright colours and featuring mammoth blown up portraits of photogenic Myanmar people. Each room is different, and so in some ways this hotel comes the closest to an Airbnb feel in Yangon.

FLASH POINT: Despite being in a district of Yangon long favoured by expats, the courtyard out the back of the hotel is little known and rarely frequented by non-guests. It is a treasured oasis in the heart of the city.
